Growing wild through many areas of the northern hemisphere oaks acorns have fed people down through the ages. Acorns are extremely nutricious with a good digestable starch and very high levels of healthy oil. We\'ve had traditional acorn gruel made by our Karuk neighbors that was truly delicious. Most varieties of oaks acorns contain tannins that must be leached out to be edible. This is easily achieved by sevearl methods, usually involving running water through the ground meal. Some oaks have sweet acorns that don\'t need leaching, but they are less likely to reach the ground due to their disirableness by many types of birds and animals. Durable wood has many uses in construction and wood working. Beautiful long lived trees are revered wherever they grow.
