Bruno Fuzzy Kiwi (Organic)

USDA Certified Organic

The ‘Bruno’ Kiwi vine has large elongated fruit with dark brown fuzzy skin and light green flesh. It is a very vigorous vine that produces large crops. It flowers later than others making it a good choice for areas that may have late frosts. Chill hours requirement:50-250 hours of temperatures between 30f-45f.  The 'Bruno' will need the Actinidia deliciosa, Fuzzy Male Kiwi in order to be pollinated and set fruit. Kiwi prefer moist, well drained soil in part to full sun.

Yields can be up to 50 pounds per plant. Generally, Kiwi needs to be 2-3 years old before they set fruit. Our plants are usually 1-2 years old when we sell them. Kiwi plants shipped Fall through Spring may be dormant and with out leaves.

Light: Full to part sun.

Fruit: Brown fruit with light green flesh.

Bearing age: 2-3 years,  50 lbs. of fruit per plant.

Pollination requirements: Requires a Fuzzy Male to set fruit.

The New Zealand kiwifruit industry uses Bruno widely as a rootstock for both green and gold fruit and has proved resistant to the kiwifruit vine disease PSA-v, first found in New Zealand in 2010. The variety is named for Bruno Just of Palmerston North (1848-1945), one of the nurserymen in New Zealand who recognised the potential of kiwifruit. Bruno is a more reliable cropper than Hayward (which needs management to do well every year) but has elongated fruit that apparently don’t have the keeping qualities of Hayward.
